“This week we commemorate the birth of Imam Ali (a.s) on 13 Rajab. Mowlana Aftab Haider in quoting a saying of Imam Ali (a.s) “Know things through their opposite” analyzed the personality of Imam Ali (a.s) in terms of his 3 categories of enemies ie the Non-believers, the Hypocrites and the Khaarijites (extremists). Imam Ali (a.s), being the “opposite” of these 3 extremes, personified the sublime qualities of being “visionary” and “patient perseverance.”
“In commemoration of the birth of the 5th Imam Muhammed Baqir (a.s) this week, Mowlana Aftab Haider analyses the unique contribution of this Imam to the huge academic movement during his era wherein the Ummayads were on the decline and the Abbasid dynasty were expanding and the governments of the day, in attempting to compete with the Ahlul Bait (a.s) invested greatly into the “Translation Movement” which resulted in many foreign ideologies and philosophies entering the domain of the Islamic empire. This posed its own threats and required an extraordinary effort to protecting the pure teachings of Islam.”
“With the Soccer World Cup officially commencing in South Africa today, Mowlana Aftab Haider examined the position of entertainment and relaxation in our lives and its relation to the Soccer World Cup and the Quranic guidelines to determine at which point in principle entertainment is considered abhorrent or impermissible.”
